Getting
Stuck into MUD isn’t as crazy as it might sound.
Here at East Coast Environmental Solutions, we have been helping people
get stuck into
MUD since 2001.
Modular
Underground
Drainage is used to create Water Voids that capture,
filter and recharge the earths natural water cycle.
It is a completely different set of rules for water.
Currently most of our urban stormwater creates flooded man made channels
that have no environmental benefit and the water, often badly polluted,
ends up in the ocean.
This current practice can be, and should be, changed.
The most obvious way is to capture rain water close to its source,
harvest and re use it wisely, and try to infiltrate as much as possible
back into the earth.
Here at ECES we are proud to have provided technical, and practical
assistance to many projects, designed to promote WSUD (Water Sensitive
Urban Design).
From small infiltration systems (soakaways) where shire regulations are
now promoting WSUD, to major installations using harvesting systems for
the irrigation of sports fields, streetscapes and utilities.
Permeable Paving is now being widely accepted as best practice for high
density urban areas. This system allows water to enter in to sub soil
voids providing filtering and re - absorption into the earth.
In 2009 The Commonwealth of Australia are providing grant funding for
Stormwater Harvesting Projects, in recognition of the need to change the
current total loss of stormwater practises which are simply
unsustainable on the driest continent on earth. |
